Overview

The Manager, Cargo Claims facilitates the global cargo claims process for the airline. The process includes receiving, registering, evaluating, administering, and processing all damage/loss claims pursuant to Atlas’s established claim handling process. Partner with various departments and vendors on strategies for claims prevention.

Responsibilities

  • Review and manage all claims for eligibility, accuracy and completeness and provide compensation in accordance with Atlas’ liability and goodwill standards. Treat each claim with empathy, fairness, and professionalism.
  • Compile and manage accurate data and other records necessary for accurate and timely assessment of claim causes and resolution.
  • Communicates verbally and in writing with customers, carriers, insurance companies, and other parties as necessary regarding claim status updates with a focus to streamline the process.
  • Provides timely and appropriate information to all relevant internal/external parties involved in claim to facilitate timely resolution and reduce cost/liability exposure.
  • Identifies and resolves issues related to claim components in accordance with insurance policies and contracts.
  • Maintain familiarity with international rules/regulations governing international and interstate shipments and carrier liability relating to cargo damage/loss.
  • Monitors claims processing timelines and analyzes/reports trends, characteristics, and causes of claims; helps develop recommendations for process improvement and claims prevention.
  • Ensure up-to-date knowledge of current Atlas policies, customer’s contracts and procedures and coordinate, evaluate and develop local processes for more efficient handling of claims.
  • Liaise with Risk Management and Legal to find satisfactory conclusions to legal cargo liability claims and avoid setting precedents that contradict the corporate philosophy.
  • Proactively keeps management informed of pending status of claims and any issues that may result in litigation.
  • Coordinate closely with all internal/external stakeholders in claim handling process from initial claim filing until claim resolution/settlement.
  • Check and retrieve shipment claim related information.
  • Develop and maintain various claim reports.
  • Identify and call attention service deficiencies that lead to repetitive lawsuit and make recommendations for future avoidance of these claims.
  • Participate in other duties as assigned by management.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree preferred plus 3-5 years of experience aviation claims handling related experience or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.

  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while paying attention to detail.
  • Ability to gather and interpret data, compile information and prepare reports.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively as well as being a team player.
  • Problem solving / solution oriented.
  • Detailed understanding of the aviation industry and related aviation claims handing training.
  • Proven success working with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to handle the complexity of global aviation operations while maintaining attention to detail in handling of claims.

 

Salary Range: $71,000 - $96,000

 

Financial offer within the stated range will be based on multiple factors to include but not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset.
