Overview

The Duty Pilot serves as a liaison between Flight Crew, Express Operations Center (EOC) / Global Control Center (GCC), and Flight Operations Management to resolve, or effectively address, immediate operational issues. This role ensures that all parties involved in a particular operational issue/problem have the necessary information to collectively make the optimal decision. The Duty Pilot is a knowledgeable and resourceful individual that is readily available to support a positive working relationship between all parties in the GCC/EOC and those individuals in the field or working remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as designated EOC/GCC representative of the Senior Vice President – Flight Operations, to delegate, and advise, on matters that arise.
  • Quickly obtains information and familiar with the SOP and FOM. Although Duty Pilots are not expected to have expert level knowledge of all aspects of Flight Ops and the GCC/EOC, they are expected to know where to find the information, or who can be contacted for the required information.
  • Serves as a resource to the line pilot to help resolve real-time operational issues, and mitigate the occurrence of operational disruptions.
  • Documents events, spots trends, and recommends solutions to recurring problems to streamline Flight Operations departmental processes.
  • Acts as an extension to the Chief Pilots and Directors of Operations for day to day matters and crew inquiries by fielding questions and concerns not involving operational control decisions
  • Provides pilot input and perspective as a liaison to the GCC/EOC, supports departmental managers and Flight Operations management to clarify and determine appropriate actions for successful resolution of operational problems.
  • Responsible for identification of Safety Management Systems (SMS) triggers, completing initial steps under risk management, and identifying operational hazards to ensure Flight Operations is promoting operational excellence, preventing incidents/accidents, and appropriately managing risk.
  • In accordance with Chief Pilots’ and Directors of Operations’ input, maintains and updates Standard Operating Procedures applied to the position.
  • Adheres to the Atlas Flight Operations Manual and Duty Pilot Standard Operations Procedures (SOP) to ensure compliance and consistency while performing job responsibilities.
  • Coordinates input from Chief Pilots, Fleet Captains, and Fleet Technical Pilots to support crewmembers, troubleshoot issues, and resolve maintenance concerns to ensure safe and timely operations.
  • Supports activities to resolve operational issues as they develop in real time to avoid, or minimize, any interruptions to the operations.
  • Works in person, or via conference call, with GCC/EOC Core Team members for safe, efficient airline
  • Liaison between Aircraft Maintenance and Flight Operations to maximize aircraft reliability and provide perspective on maintenance issues as they occur in real time.
  • Assists Security Dept, and System Chief Pilot (SCP), as assigned, to ensure compliance and resolution of security
  • Gathers data and initiates follow-up on crew delays in excess of 15 minutes. Or, as required, conducts delay trend analysis, and provides follow-up as requested by the Chief Pilot.
  • Prepare reports and trend analysis for Flight Operations to aid in improving system
  • Monitors delays, weather events, dispatch problems, mechanical and crew issues, to proactively respond to, and minimize, delays or safety risks.
  • Attends and supports operational recap at 0900 and 1500 Ops Meeting by providing feedback or sharing crew perspective on developing situations.

  • Coordinates and provides input on Safety issues as they arise at the airport, on location, or while in flight.  

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Presently, or previously, flight qualified (knowledge and experience of Boeing aircraft preferred)
  • Minimum of 10 years commercial airline experience.
  • Sound knowledge of Aircraft Systems and Aircraft Performance principles and applications.
  • The ability to develop good working relationships with contacts inside and outside of the GCC/EOC.
  • Experience, and understanding in, Atlas Air Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Problem Solving and Decisions Making skills are essential in this role.
  • Previous experience in an Operations management capacity with a Part 135 or 121 airline preferred.

 

Pay Rate: $106.25/hour
